>> ama: good evening, i'm ama daetz. they are trying to figure out what led to a deadly shooting. a man in his 20s was shot and killed at an apartment on pacific avenue about 2:30 this morning. police have arrested a man in his 50s. the apartment is on pacific near taylor street in a quiet part of nob hill. a neighbor says she heard a commotion early this morning. >> i could hear a couple

fighting, screaming and then i could hear the gun go off. then the lady was crying really hard. she called police. i could hear the police coming in and i could hear them saying one person is dead. >> ama: police have not confirmed if there was a woman involved or if there was an argument before the shooting. a gun buy-back program in south san francisco handed out thousands of dollars to get 250 guns off the streets today, however, it was overshadowed by a huge gun show in daly city. nick smith was at the event. >> five children a day are killed in this country due to gun violence. >> california congresswoman jackie speier held a gun buy-back in south san francisco. gun owners were urged to surrender their guns for cash. >> it gets a lot of guns off the street and out of houses without being used eventually maybe fall

in the wrong hands. >> congresswoman's efforts don't stop there. she wants a ban on assault weapons and complete background checks. >> we're arguing whether or not it's sensible law that we should have on the books. universal background checks. >> as a member of the house committee on oversight and government reform, she introduced the gun transparency and accountability act. it would remove the requirement background checks be destroyed in 24 hours and make them available to other agencies. >> a record number of gun enthusiasts came here out of fear that potential gun regulations could soon make guns and ammo difficult to obtain. >> we are under the microscope. bad guys go outside and sources on the streets. >> those who put on the gun

shows point out that california gun laws require a background check and a ten-day hold for weapons bought at the event. >> i want to make sure that we protect our second amendment rights, but i want to be part of the process of addressing the problems of gun violence in america. >> at least 14 republican senators have promised to filibuster legislation that would advance new gun laws. obama administration continues to struggle for bipartisan support. the gun show continues tomorrow as well as the debate over gun violence. at cow palace, nick smith "abc 7 news." >> man say a man was set police say a man was set on fire. it was. >> a homeless man approached the suv and asked the driver for change and refused and went into the store. he got back in the car the suspect influence a flammable liquid on him and set him on fire.

people that saw it were in shock. one spoke by phone. >> the door opened and entire insides were ablade. he came out. he was horrifying, his entire shirt was on fire and head was on fire. >> they were able to corner the suspect and hold him until police arrived. >> they arrested a woman suspected of stealing a vehicle with a baby girl inside. she is accused of kidnapping and child endangerment. they believe she stole a jeep in east san jose on march 25th with this little girl inside. they say the baby's mother briefly walked away from the running vehicle to close a garage door. jeep and baby were found nearby five hours later. the child was not hurt. police in half moon bay are asking homeowners to be on alert after a string of burglaries. thieves targeted homes on grand boulevard and two other avenues.

most happened during the day. they think the thieves may knock on doors and get inside the homes in side doors. it is unclear if the cases are connected. hundreds raise their voices in downtown san francisco today urging the u.s. government to ground unmanned drone aircraft. >> the protest at powell and marketed streets coincided with others across the u.s. answer coalition organized the rally. they accuse the u.s. killing more than 4700 people with drones. >> governor jerry brown continues his tour of china. his next tour where he'll discuss environmental policy. he met with a former n.b.a. star yao ming. he shopped with the head of the

communist party in shanghai. the governor's office released the photos of the two together. they discussed the way california and shanghai can expand their business partnership. brown says there is a lot to learn how the chinese are doing business. >> the rest of the world is moving at mach speed. >> his tour edges tuesday. >> 36 families celebrated moving into their new homes they help build. jackie speier and other local leaders joined the ribbon-cutting. habitat of humanity did the building. the residents have to meet several requirements in order to live in one of the homes. >> application process is grueling and so many people,

>> tomorrow a flight in indonesia crash landed today in the water. remarkably no one on the plane died. >> terrifying moments aboard an indonesia jetliner that slammed into the ocean on the resort island of bali. the plane was coming in for a landing but never made it to the runway crashing into shallow water and breaking into two. passengers report panic and screaming on board as they scrambled to get out of boeing 737. everyone survived although dozens were injured. this man says he grabbed a life jacket and swam to shore. this passenger didn't know how to swim. rescuers carried him. the flight was operated by largest carrier lion air which

has a checkered safety record. >> the european union does publish their black list. flyers into different parts of the world ought to check the black list. >> it was brand-new and delivered two months ago. it had all the latest safety features. >> probably the most important is it was equipped with 16 g-seats. these are seats that really can sustain a hard impact. >> it's unusual for planes to go down short of the runway. this crash in nigeria was blamed on engine trouble. >> there are thousands of these boeing 737s worldwide and u.s. investigators are eager to know what went wrong. they will be headed to indonesia to see what the plane's black box reveals. >> coming up next, a bus driver

>> tomorrow a bus driver in nebraska has been fired for beating a passenger and it's all caught on video that may be hard to watch. surveillance video from the bus driver confronts the passenger. driver who said was asking too many questions. he throws the passenger down and starts to pummel.

he threw 18 punches. he dragged the passenger off the bus. the bus driver begged his boss to destroy the video but it was turned over to the authorities instead. passenger was not seriously hurt. the driver was fired and faces an assault charge. >> in stockton, they caught a man peeping into the bedroom of a teenage girl. the man looked through the window and getting down on his knees and crawling in for a closer look. police posted on the video and have received the lead on the man's identity. >> a san jose teenager is being credited tonight with saving the life of a young boy about to go over a water fall in yosemite. waterfall is the world famous vernal falls. the boy slipped into the merced river. 16-year-old alex smith jumped the railing held on to a rock and pulled the boy to safety just before he would have gone over the 317-foot drop.

52, livermore. 57 in union city. coldest morning comes tuesday morning. this cooler air is going to stick around for a while. winds gusting still to 31 miles an hour at the airport. 33 mile-an-hour gusts half moon bay but san carlos airport, breezy there, nine mile-an-hour winds in concord. breezy and cooler tomorrow. 60s and 70s. tomorrow more like 60s and some of outlying temperatures could reach 70. very windy on monday. could see some advisories around here once again. like last monday, wind gusts, 40 and 50 miles an hour. so far, point reyes and sfo has had the gusty winds and they should stay along the coast tonight allowing for low 40s and upper 30s from santa rosa to napa. 49 in oakland. here is the setup then for the next couple of days. low pressure still banked up in

the gulf of alaska. we're getting a piece of cooler air with the coldest air heads our way on monday. then when those winds die back, that is where we could see more widespread frost and few showers late tomorrow into monday. leading edge of the next system late tomorrow perhaps spreading a few light showers. 11:00 tomorrow night, not a lot going on but cloud cover and maybe some of that wind will help keep temperatures up for sunday night into monday. when we clear all together, monday night into tuesday is when we can see the coldest temperatures. that is thinking about the 80s and even the 70s. 79 in fresno with 57 along the coast. 66, los angeles. back home, highs ranging from the upper 50s half moon bay. mid-60s across the bay. if you are headed to the game tomorrow, not as nice as today. winds will be kicking up a few

extra clouds. chance of showers comes in late tomorrow and into monday. temperatures rebound on tuesday and sunnier conditions, 60, 70, even 80 by the end of the week. >> ama: mike shumann is here with sports. tiger got a rude awakening this morning. >> the wake-up was from the masters rules committee that added two strokes on 15 yesterday. it hits the pin, then it spun into the water. he has three options, hit from the drop zone or point of entry or from his original spot. he dropped it behind the original spot which is an improper drop. he signed an incorrect score card which is disqualification. he was given a two stroke penalty before round three. he was asked whether he considered withdrawing. >> under the rules of golf
